Case Study: Intermezzo Bar

Intermezzo was originally a well loved coffee shop and cocktail bar, part of the Tyneside Cinema premises in Newcastle, running for 15 years, sadly closing in 2015 when their lease wasn't renewed to make way for a in-house cafe ran by the cinema.

Four years later and the team behind Tokyo Bar and Alvino's are behind it and ready to relaunch in style. They loved what we did with their previous Tokyo Bar Project so pulled us in to give a helping hand with the new venture, this time we didn't grace the interior with any of our artists help, deciding against going any art installation routes and to let the 1920's inspired interior styling do the talking. A mixture of gorgeous bottle green and golden brown tiles complement the painted green woodern panelled walls and brown plus leather sofa's and chairs. All basked in the warming glow of interior lighting on an evening when you're knocking back cocktails with your friends, or the natural suns rays coming through the huge windows on a day time while you enjoy a latte with work chums. The new Intermezzo is an interior experience like no other in Newcastle, you'd swear you were drinking a cosmopolitan in Manhattan not inside a bar stones through from the Tyne Bridge.

Branding wise, we created a simple, clean branding suite consisting of two main elements, the main Intermezzo wordmark and a secondary icon. Brief was to have this looking like something that could of been done in the 1920's but with a modern twist. With executions like the 3D, multi-layered, illuminated signage above the front door we reckon we've done just that!

We also left our dirty fingerprints all over the printed product, highlight for us is the stylish cocktail menu's with a heavy dose of art deco inspiration, with clean modern graphic design typesetting, bound in embossed leather cases which take pride of place on each table.

If that all sounds a bit of you, trust us, you'll want to check Intermezzo and of course Tokyo next time you're in the North East!
